Happy Halloween!

Posted by photographicdesign on October 31, 2008

Happy Halloween Everybody!
Trick or Treaters were out and about at our neighborhood last night- this is my house where I scared the bejeebies tried to make the holiday memorable for the little tykes!
We usually have twice the work fun with a graveyard and scary charactors jumping out from the shadows- but decided to tone down this year due to some kids with bladder control problems……..

One more Shun Kaji cutlery photo

Posted by photographicdesign on October 29, 2008

Believe it or not, this was one of the most challenging product shots I’ve done in a long time- Everything seemed to reflect something it shouldn’t….

This is one of the chef’s knives from a pair I photographed earlier on this summer- I noticed a lot of interest on this subject.  Anyone have suggestions on other cutlery I should take a look at photographing?

Pittsburgh at night.

Posted by photographicdesign on October 28, 2008

Here’s an image I had taken from earlier this year- I have to say; Pittsburgh is one of my favorite cities to visit. I’d love to have more than a day to photograph here- Soooo many beautiful places to visit!

Cabel County Courthouse

Posted by photographicdesign on October 27, 2008

I was traveling this weekend and spent most of the day working on a project in HUNTINGTON WV .

While I was walking about the city, I made it a point to take a photo of the Cabel County Courthouse. It’s one of the very cool landmarks you see as you travel around Huntington.

I did an interview a few days ago for my new “Charleston Collection” of fine art prints showing city landmarks and streetscapes.
Here is the link to the story:  Charleston Daily Mail Article
Like most people from around the area- Charleston is home- even if you’ve moved far away. I hope I’ve done it( the city ) justice!

You can view them all online here: The Charleston Collection

R Strap review

Posted by photographicdesign on October 21, 2008

Hey gang! back in town from a whirlwind “fall foliage” WV tour!
I promised I’d tell you my thoughts on the new R Strap- well here it is:

WOW! I never thought I’d get excited about a strap ( not THAT kinda strap anyway…) but it really does make a difference in how you use your camera.
1) the weight load is better on your neck- My camera is close to 10 pounds with extra batt grip, and heavy lenses. No neck strain!
2) Keeps the camera from swinging around so much when you move around. Very well balanced, so the camera stays next to your hip.
3)The ease of bringing the camera up to my eye. Even while I wore the strap under my jacket. Just a quick motion and BOOM! Ready to take a shot.

Overall, it felt very comfortable and natural. not something I can always say about lugging a camera around with me- If you carry a camera, this is the strap to carry it with.

My R-Strap is here!

Posted by photographicdesign on October 17, 2008

For those who don’t know what that is:

Basically, it’s a camera strap that allows you to sling a camera over your shoulder and raise the camera without moving the strap itself. This is a big deal for two reasons. 1) you can wear the camera under a jacket or coat and raise you camera without fussing with your clothes.2) it helps keep your camera out of the way to the side instead of in front of you all the time.

I’ll let you know next week of my opinion- I’m going to be shooting around the state a lot for a few days and I’ll be giving it a workout!

Thanks to David DuChemin for letting all of us know of the R-Strap and Blackrapids existance!

…to Jason and Missy Meeks ( formerly Perdue) on a perfect wedding day!
It was a pleasure to be a part of their wedding- everyone made me feel like a part of the family and we all had a wonderful time!

Special thanks to the Bride and Groom who never questioned anything I asked them to do for a picture- I can’t wait to show them the photographs!

You know it when you see it…

Posted by photographicdesign on October 8, 2008

I don’t always get a wall hanger “the perfect shot” everytime I’m out. Sometimes I get crap  documentary shots of the locations I visit. This is one of them.
But that’s not what I’m pointing out today- nope, I’m here to tell you about what happens when you start to develop a point of view…. Read the rest of this entry »
